This body of work is an exploration of identity and heritage, brought about through my Scottish family and time spent growing up and living in Scotland. The collection focuses on Scotland’s brutal history at the hands of the English, the endurance of Scottish culture through the Jacobite rebellion and the endurance of women throughout the continuous battle for gender equality. Indomitable focuses on female empowerment and strength as each piece unpacks the various theories surrounding feminist dress. Floral motifs are replaced by jagged thistles and garments are adorned in weathered chain, while the power suit is deconstructed and merged with traditional evening wear silhouettes.

Scottish archetypes and materials form the basis of this research, there is an emphasis on tartan and mimicking clan identity, while pleating is used in various fabrications and archetypes. The role of the sporran in disseminating the works is crucial as it develops throughout accessories as well as adornment. In keeping with the concept of endurance, hardware has undergone several tarnishing techniques to create a weathered effect, which the jewellery from my collaboration has also undergone. Indomitable has been developed to embody Auld Scotland Tartan fabric, sent from Lochcarron, Scotland. The traditional tartan in combination with the laser etched tartan and the developed lining print strengthens the overall concept of identity and heritage.
